The Herb Garden
Herbs are often defined as any plant that has a use to man. In reality this means just about every plant could be included. Herbs have been used for food and beverages, medicine, to scent houses and clothing, to make and dye cloth, cosmetics and for many other purposes. The sweet smelling herbs of medieval pleasure gardens were the same plants that were grown elsewhere for practical use, but in the pleasure Garden they were to be grown for the pleasure of the senses.

The Shady Path
A place of repose to listen to the birds singing in the branches above. The path leads from the Paradise of Eden to the Earthly natural garden of St Francis. Some may see this as the path through Purgatory; if you look closely you may even see some of the cinders from the fires of Hell. These were originally for the tennis court of Cotterstock Hall and are most likely from the Corby furnaces, a reminder of how the works of man soon pass away. Neither furnaces nor tennis courts remain.
